Red Bull’s Christian Horner believes Australia will be a perfect showcase race
Red Bull team boss, Christian Horner believes that the postponement of the Bahrain Grand Prix could actually serve his team pretty well.
Horner reported earlier today that he does not believe that the struggling teams will benefit from the decision. However, he reckons that the beginning of the season in Australia will help Red Bull get a better start. He revealed that the team car does not
have the best pace at the long straights owing to the underpowered Renault engine.
While talking to the media on Wednesday morning, Horner stated, "With its long straights, Bahrain would not have been our showcase race."
The news of postponing the Bahrain Grand Prix was revealed by the Bahrain crown Prince, Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Monday evening as he said, "At the present time the country's entire attention is focused on building a new national dialogue for
Bahrain. Although Bernie Ecclestone had graciously made clear that a decision on the race was entirely Bahrain's to make and was not yet required, we felt it was important for the country to focus on immediate issues of national interest and leave the hosting
of Bahrain's Formula One race to a later date.”
The race is now expected to be held near the end of the season, while the Australian round will kick off the 2011 calendar at the end of March.
Although the Formula 1 supremo, Ecclestone expressed disappointment over the news, yet some of the teams like McLaren and Mercedes felt relieved.
Mercedes' Norbert Haug commented on the news, "At this point before the start of a season, all the teams are doing things literally at the very last minute."
He believes that every extra minute, until the curtain raiser, Australian GP will give the competitors "just a little bit more air".
However, the youngest team boss on the Formula 1 grid, Horner believes that ten days can do no wonder for any team. He concluded that all the teams have got equal extra time so no one will have any edge over the other because of the delay.
