Red Bull’s Dietrich Mateschitz: Formula 1 World Champ Sebastian Vettel is free to move to Ferrari
Austrian businessman, and the co-founder of the energy drink producer Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz proclaimed earlier today that if the new world champion, Sebastian Vettel would want to switch his team after this season, he would
not be stopped.
Vettel’s contract with the Red Bull Racing will end this year. This means that after the 2011 Formula 1 season the German would be free to decide his future team.
Since his victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last season, the reigning world champion is being asked by the reporters time and again for his future plans. At many occasions, the driver has expressed his desire to move to Ferrari
in the near future.
Although the 23-year-old has stated several times that he is happy with his current team still his desire to race for Ferrari is very evident. Furthermore, the Ferrari ace driver, Fernando Alonso also stated last week that it was
natural for the young champ to wish to race for the legendary marquee. He said that sitting behind the wheel of the legendary car is the dream of every driver, although, very few have the courage to say this.
While talking to the media earlier today, the Red Bull owner said, "As long as Sebastian is comfortable with us and has a winning car, he will probably not really think about going elsewhere. If he tells us one day he wants to
go to Ferrari or Mercedes, we would have to understand. There are more mothers with beautiful daughters -- we would let him go."
When asked about the other Red Bull driver, Mark Webber, Mateschitz said that for him as well as for the rest of the team both the drivers value just the same. He added that he foresees a longer tenure for the Australian with the
team as compared to Vettel.
The Austrian said, "Mark's personality is different but he is as good as Sebastian. They are both excellent warriors who can both win the war."
However, the team boss, Christian Horner announced last year that wishes to keep the driver with the team for a long time and will try to make the decision of switching as tough for Vettel as he can.
