Red Bull’s Dietrich Mateschitz rejects rumours regarding his team’s race strategy at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Red Bull’s owner Dietrich Mateschitz was happier than ever after the world witnessed the crowning of a new Formula 1 drivers’ champion at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The grand finale was set to take place this past Sunday after an exciting qualifying session a day before as Sebastian Vettel took the pole position ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
At first, it seemed that Fernando will be able to maintain his lead and eventually win his third title but things turned out differently. Mark Webber’s chances were damaged drastically after he pitted in the 12th lap. It was expected that the
team just wanted to make an early pit and hopefully pick up the pieces when the other teams pit. However, Fernando Alonso, even after looking at the disastrous decision that Red Bull made, decided to follow Mark’s lead and pit 4 laps after the Australian’s
pit.
There were many rumours that Red Bull pitted Mark Webber to mislead Ferrari in order to secure the title for Sebastian Vettel. Obviously, the strategy proved to be a huge blunder for Ferrari as well as Red Bull as both Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber got
stuck behind Vitaly Petrov’s Renault.
As far as this rumour goes, it is plausible that it’s true since Red Bull has openly been supporting the 2010 world champion Sebastian Vettel as the team claims that they would have a brighter future with Sebastian as he is much younger than Mark and has
a long way to go in the sport.
“Afterwards, everyone thinks everything like that is done deliberately, but that's not something you can plan”, Red Bull owner Mateschitz told
the Media.
Mark Webber was nowhere to be found after the young German celebrated double championships with his team. However, the Australian stated that he would be back with the team next year.
“I know Mark wanted a clearer position within the team and I can understand his disappointment. But he will go on with us,” added the owner of Red Bull.
Dietrich vowed that the team will maintain its performance next year hopefully along with Mark Webber on their side.
“We now have our dream team, with the right people in the right positions. Of course, our people get many offers, but the entire team is staying together,” said the Austrian.
