Red Bull’s Mark Webber may switch to Ferrari in 2012 – Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 Red Bull driver Mark Webber has insisted that he may switch to Ferrari for the 2012 season, if Red Bull Racing chooses not to extend his contract with the team, after the completion of his three-year deal.
There were rumours at the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season that Ferrari could be lining Webber up by replaced their driver Felipe Massa at the end of the season.
Webber added that after knowing Red Bull’s plans, he will disclose his final decision about his switching to another team in his future.
He said, "I have my flaws, but I'm determined. Last year I fought for the title, and I want to go for it again. I'm relaxed and I feel I can do it, until the end. When the season ends my contract with Red Bull will expire. I don't think a possible renewal
depends on the results. I want to win for myself too. We'll see.”
He went on to add that if Red Bull show that they do not want him anymore in their team, then he will have to make a choice between changing teams or ‘hanging up’ his helmet and stop racing. After that he will announce his final decision to his fans.
The Australian driver had a strong start in the 2011 season. Despite some small issues during the Australian race, he continued to drive with aggression and finished fifth fastest. He took part in the Malaysia race, where he again put his best run on the
grid, among the very strong runners of the race and completed his fourth place for the team.
Red Bull was very pleased due to both drivers performance, especially Sebastian Vettel, who won both the Melbourne and Sepang races of the season.
However, Red Bull participated in the Chinese Grand Prix with hopes of winning the race again on the grid, but due to taking a very early pit-stop during the course, Vettel failed to put his team on the top spot. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton had a good strategy
working during the race and managed to drive to victory in Shanghai. However, Formula 1 members appreciate the Red Bull car’s pace, which showed over the first three events of the season.
Red Bull is expected a lot from this season, as they are considered to be the strongest team in Formula 1. The competition between McLaren and Red Bull is becoming tougher, as they are moving towards the challenging races of 2011 calendar.
It will be interesting to see how McLaren and Red Bull perform at the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix scheduled for May 8.
