Red Bull’s Mark Webber says Mugello test is important for the team – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that the in-season test at Mugello circuit is very important for the team as they need to gather some crucial information about RB8.
The Australian driver could only cover 24 laps on the first day at Mugello due to the downpour and set the second best time of 1 minute and 23.648 seconds. Moreover, the defending champions remained in the garage during the entire session in the afternoon
as a result of the heavy rainstorm.
Nevertheless, Webber said that he is feeling positive that they will be able to gather the necessary information about their car in the next two days in order to make the necessary developments for the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix while he said that this test
is very crucial for them.
“Obviously, the weather wasn't great today, so we didn't get to do much running in the dry,” he said. “Really, we only got one decent run on the slicks. Then it rained after lunch and with limited sets of wets available, you can't do that much. We're hoping
for better over the next couple of days. It's an important test. We have a lot of information to gather and, while today didn't quite work out as expected, I'm optimistic that over the course of the next few days we'll get the information we need.”
Furthermore, he is presently at third place in the drivers’ championship with 48 points ahead of McLaren driver, Jenson Button. Besides, it will be interesting to mention that Webber has emerged as the most consistent driver in the season so far as he has
managed to secure fourth place finish in all the first four races. In addition, the deviation in his performance in the qualifying has been insignificant as he has secured reasonable grid position in all the races until now.
Red Bull have not been as confident as they were in the preceding season because there have been four different winners who ran on entirely different car setups in all the four races this year. Nonetheless, they have been trying their best to make the significant
preparations to improve their pace in the races ahead.
