Red Bull’s Mark Webber tops the charts in 2nd Practice Session: Spanish Grand Prix – Formula One News
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber topped Friday practice with yet another blistering lap with a 1 minute 22.470 seconds.
However, unlike the first session that saw a Red Bull 1 – 2, this time, the two cars were split by Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren. Jenson Button was 4th fastest ahead of Fernando Alonso in 5th. The Mercedes GP pair followed the Spaniard with Nico Rosberg nearly four tenths of a second quicker than his veteran teammate Michael Schumacher.
Felipe Massa in the Ferrari, followed by Kamui Kobayashi in the Sauber and Nick Heidfeld in the Renault rounded off the top 10.
At the rear end, the HRTs seem to be struggling for pace this weekend as they look to be in danger of getting knocked out in qualifying on Saturday as their times were slower than the 107% rule.
The Force India cars seem to be struggling as Paul di Resta set the 17th fastest time after doing 32 laps, while his teammate Adrian Sutil was 19th fastest after a relatively short run of 20 laps.
Williams’ driver Maldonado along with Renault’s Vitaly Petrov seemed to be the busiest drivers on track as they did 43 laps apiece.
Mark Webber seems to be taking Round 5 seriously. Not only has the Australian consistently posted a series of quick laps, but he looks to get as much exposure to the Catalunya circuit as possible after doing a total of 35 laps at the end of the session. Fernando Alonso looks to be another driver matching the Red Bull man as he looks to make an impression in front of his home crowd.
The weather has been particularly conducive for racing with a 22 degree centigrade; the forecast was sunny for Friday with no rain expected.
With the third and final practice session set to take on Saturday followed by Qualifying on the same day, will the Red Bulls walk away with a 1 – 2 heading into the race yet again?
