Red Bull’s “New Year. No Limits” jump representing the beginning of a new era for Robbie Maddison
The Australian freestyle motocross (FMX) and stunt rider Robbie Maddison has claimed that the record-breaking long-distance jump that he plans to perform over the 300 feet San Diego Harbour at Red Bull’s “New Year. No Limits” on December 31 represents a
turning point in his career.
The 30-year-old dare-devil plans on shifting his focus from FMX contests to performing death-defying record-breaking stunts.
Talking to a leading sports news network ESPN, Maddison said, “This is the start of a new era. To me this jump represents a turning point in my career and the fact that I'm going to be pushing this side of the sport a lot more in the future. I'm proud of
my accomplishments in freestyle and I'll continue to compete in FMX, but I'm also really trying to change the game a little bit so I can jump even farther in the future.”
The Australian further went on to reveal that he has developed a new invention that he plans on unleashing early in 2012. He is simply concentrating on exploring the possibilities that exist while riding a dirt-bike, regardless of the risk involved.
Maddison admitted that there was plenty of risk involved in performing a jump over the 300-foot San Diego Harbour during Red Bull “New Year. No Limits” event, mainly because of the handicap of not being able to do a speed run past the take-off ramp in order
to ensure that the required speed has been attained before launching the bike into the air.
To further add to the challenge of performing the jump, America’s snowmobile rider Levi LaVallee would also be going for a record-breaking jump simultaneously. Taking off from the ramp with the American riding right next to him is being considered as one
of the most challenging aspect of jump by Maddison.
The current record for the longest-distance jump is held by Ryan Capes, who travelled a distance of 391 feet before making a touch-down. However, Maddison plans on beating that record with a comprehensive margin, aiming to cross the 400 feet mark.
Whether the Australian dare-devil manages to accomplish the feat and set a new world record is something that will be revealed in less than a week now.
