Red Bull’s Paul Monaghan says not much gap between Webber and Vettel’s lap times – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing car engineer Paul Monaghan has said that there is not much gap between Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel’s lap times.
He admitted that Webber is moving in the right direction in the 2011 Formula 1 season and that he is very close to his teammate Vettel. In addition, he said if they look at the performance of both drivers in the recently held European Grand Prix, Webber was just a minute slower than Vettel on the race day.
Paul is sure Webber will beat Vettel once in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he is struggling for his race victory since the last couple of races.
He added, “It's the consequence of such a competitive sport one small mistake can cost you quite a lot. In the last part of qualifying, you might see that one driver makes a mistake in one corner, and then pays the price for it all the way down the subsequent straight.”
The Red Bull car engineer went on to mention, “All of a sudden that's three places on the grid, and you've got people saying 'what's happening there?’ The cars are separated by eight metres on the grid, so all of a sudden you can be 36 metres behind your team-mate wondering what on earth has happened.”
Webber kicked off to a disappointing season in 2011, as he was unable to deliver a strong run on the grid in the initial races due to Kinetic Energy Recovery System issues.
Despite a KERS issue with his RB7 car, he really worked hard and made a lot of improvement in his performance as the Australian was struggling for his race victory from the last two grands prix.
In the recently held Valencia race weekend, he had a very close fight with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso for a few laps. However, in the closing laps, he took a pitstop and because of that he could not finish his race at the second place for the team.
After a podium finish in the European Grand Prix, Paul is sure that Webber will give stronger results to his team at the upcoming British Grand Prix. The ninth round of this season will take place on July 10, 2011 at the Silverstone circuit.
