Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso suffered a tormented relationship in 2010 F1 season
Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel admitted that he did not have a very pleasant relationship with the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso in the 2010 Formula 1 season. However, he insisted that it was not as bad as the media portrayed it to be, and that now
things have been settled between the two nicely.
During an interview, the reigning World Champion told that the two had ‘some problems’ last year. However, the 23-year-old further told the reporters, “But the event was judged by outsiders wrongly, and Fernando and I have since spoken and our relationship
is now good. Two people can have different ideas but still respect each other.”
On further probing, Vettel said that the Spaniard did not congratulate him after he became the youngest World Champion in Abu Dhabi, defeating the two-time World Champion, Alonso in the last round of the season.
However, Vettel explained that he does not reckon it be an offensive behaviour from Alonso’s side. He rather believes that it was natural for someone who struggled hard, came so close to the title, and missed it at the last round.
The Red Bull driver said, “No (he did not say congratulate me). Nothing in Abu Dhabi. In Monte Carlo (for the FIA prize giving) he shook my hand. That's normal. If you win, others are disappointed and some need 5 minutes to move past it, others two weeks.”
Since his victory, last year, Vettel is being associated to the Italian marquee, Ferrari. There are reports that the driver wants to switch to the legendary team next season or in the next few years as his contract with Red Bull will end this year.
When asked how Vettel sees his relation with Alonso presently and will things be better in the upcoming season, he stated that air is already clean between the two champs. He admitted that the upcoming season will show a tough rivalry on the track as Red
Bull and Ferrari seem the toughest contenders for the 2011 calendar.
However, Vettel insisted that the fight is always, only on the track. He assured that the two hold nothing against each other personally.
While predicting about the upcoming season, the German called McLaren and Mercedes GP strong competitors, but believes that the Ferrari drivers, Felipe Massa and Alonso will give the closest competition to the Red Bulls.
