Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel calls Michael Schumacher his ‘role-model’
The Red Bull driver and the reigning world champion, Sebastian Vettel calls the Mercedes GP driver, Michael Schumacher, his role-model. The young German has announced several times earlier as well that he always looks up to the racing icon for inspiration
and motivation.
While talking to the reporters earlier today, the Red Bull driver said, "I always see him as a role model and I think he is capable of achieving something big this season. I hope that it will not be too big, if he is second in the 2011 championships that
would be ok for me."
The German driver, Vettel believes that his compatriot, Schumacher, will always remain his ‘hero’ at the sport. The racing icon returned to the track at the beginning of the 2010 Formula 1 season, after staying away from the sport for a period of three years.
Although he was embraced with great fanfare and hype, yet, the season unwrapped in a very disappointing manner for him. The best racer (statistically) ever in the 61 years’ history of the sport, Schumacher, failed to bag any race win or even finish on the
podium even once all through the last year.
However, like many others in the sport, Vettel believes that the racing icon has nothing to prove. He stated that despite the abortive return of the driver last year, he stands as the biggest threat for the upcoming season. The young Champion assured that
the ‘good ol Schumi’ is still capable of pulling rabbits out of hat whenever he wants.
At the beginning of this year, Schumacher turned 42. Although many believe that now he is too old to beat the young blood on the grid, the front runners reckon him to be a big threat for the title.
On the other hand, Schumacher told the media, "This season, I think we can aim for the podium and why not some Grand Prix wins. But talk of the world title is still unrealistic."
With five World Champions on the 2011 grid, it is expected to be a very tough and competitive season for all the drivers and a very exciting one for the race fans.
