Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel confident about Canadian GP after securing pole position – Formula 1
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he is confident about the 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix after securing a top place in the qualifying round on Saturday.
The team driver will start the Canadian GP from the top spot on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
The qualifying round of the Montreal Grand Prix was a tough fight between Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa and Vettel until the closing time of the session. However, Vettel came up with the fastest time in the Q3.
Before the start of the Canadian race weekend, the current world champion was expecting a very difficult race weekend in North America, as he thought the medium-speed corners will not favour Red Bull’s Renault engine in 2011. Despite all of this, he really
worked hard in the qualifiers and secured yet another pole place in the season.
The Red Bull driver added, “I think we made up some ground from last year. We know this is not our strongest track, we love high-speed corners. But we had the fastest package today so we can be confident.”
He admitted that the qualifying round was not easy for him and he believes the Sunday race will not be easy for the team as well.
The German told the media that they are fighting for the 2011 world championship since the start of the season. He added that he is ready to fight in the Canadian Grand Prix after showing up a strong performance during the qualifying round in Montreal.
Apart from that, the 23-year-old driver said that the Kinetic Energy Recovery System issue during the Canadian race would hinder his run, so the team could not afford it.
He went on to add, “If I have a problem then I have no choice, I cannot stop them. This weekend I had no problems and it looks as good as it can be. With our KERS there is a bigger risk than the Ferrari engine blowing up, but Mark had a problem this afternoon.
I think they can be able to fix it tonight but we have to wait and see.”
Vettel is ready to fight for his sixth race victory in the ongoing season. Let’s see how he manages his race on Sunday.
