Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel emotional over his record 15th pole finish of the season – Formula 1
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel says achieving his record 15th pole finish of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix was very emotional for him.
Vettel took over the record from Nigel Mansell who had 14 pole finishes in a season. Vettel has been a driver looking out for such records, and he had his sight set on this one as well, and although he must have been very disappointed at retiring from the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix due to a tyre burst, which ended his bid to claim the most wins in a season, a record still held by Michael Schumacher. The German was ecstatic and emotional after claiming his 15th pole of the season.
“There has been quite some talk before the qualifying, before this weekend, about this particular record and I think the best thing was just not to think about it at all. Yesterday we did have sort of a rough start to the weekend where I wasn't 100% happy
with the balance yet but then I think we made the right choices overnight and again going in to qualifying,” Vettel responded to the question of how he felt after setting up the record.
Vettel also said that now he will be even more focused on the race, and understood that the weather will be playing its part as well, even though it had improved considerably during the qualifiers.
“Now I'm just happy to be here and happy to start from the front tomorrow and hopefully enjoy the race. So I'm looking forward. The weather's going to be a big question mark; we knew that going in to the weekend,” Vettel added.
It will be interesting to see how the race unfolds, as Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber has expressed his desire to win the Brazilian GP and keep the heat on Vettel.
While McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, the winner of the Abu Dhabi GP will be looking to end his season on a high as well, as would be his teammate Jenson Button who has been in prime form throughout the season and is virtually confirmed to end the season
placed 2nd in the drivers’ championship.
