Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel expects a "long, hard and tough” 2011 Formula 1 season
Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to an exciting, and challenging 2011 Formula 1 season. While talking to the media, earlier today, he proclaimed that a "long, hard and tough season" is ready to embrace all the teams.
Vettel, the current World Champion, believes that retaining the title for another season will be very demanding and difficult. After some impressive performances at the tests, the Red Bull’s new car, RB7, is considered the fastest on the track this year
too.
However, the German believes that the sport has a lot of changes lined up for the upcoming season, which means many unpredictable results will be seen on the grid in the days to come.
Vettel believes that the right pace and strength of the team’s car cannot be seen until the first race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix. He further explained, "It's very difficult in the beginning to tell. I don't have an advantage with having the
number '1' on the car. Obviously it's a nice feeling, and it was a great success and a big relief for me last year. Hopefully that has made me a bit stronger, but nevertheless, it will be a long, hard and tough season."
Among several other changes that have been brought by FIA this season, the replacement of Bridgestone tyres by the Italian rubber company, Pirelli, is the most significant one. Moreover, the return of KERS and the introduction of the new adjustable rear
wing are also going to make a huge difference on tracks this year.
The 23-year-old further told the media, "We seem to have a good car, but it's still too early to tell so we have to wait and see. There have been a lot of changes which has involved a lot of work over the winter trying to get the whole package ready to start
the new season."
While talking about the team car, Vettel called the RB7 'very promising'. However, he admits that it is yet too early to predict how it will perform in comparison to the other cars on the track.
He revealed that the team is still busy with the preparation work. The team had the fastest car last year and was also among the top runners in 2009. This year again, the famous Formula 1 engineer and Red Bull’s chief designer, Adrian Newey has come up with
a great car for the team.
However, Vettel believes that the upcoming races will be very different from last year. The usual single or maximum two pitstops in a race will now be replaced by three to four pits per race, which can make the drivers’ positions change dramatically.
