Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel hopes start of 2011 season is not the same as last year – Formula 1 news
Red Bull driver and youngest Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel has hoped of a 2011 season start better than the last year.
He was happy with the mileage that RB7 managed and was hoping for a strong competition in 2011.
Sebastian Vettel was talking about the last season and said that 2011 would be different from that. In the last season opener in Bahrain, Vettel’s car spark plug failed when he was the race leader costing him three spots, ending up in fourth.
In the second Grand Prix in Australia his car spun as the wheel nut became lose. After that, he started his winning streak, finally ending as a champion in 2010.
He mentioned his 2010 performance and said, “I think the last couple of years in the first races we didn't do very well.”
Their 2011 pre-season testing has been the one to remember. Apart from few days where other teams were able to top the tables, Red Bull have been on the top with the most reliable car on the grid.
Talking about the pre-season testing so far, he said that they have bagged some good mileage on the car. He further added that they have a reliable car and they can win grands prix with RB7.
“To make a fast car reliable is probably easier than making a reliable car fast,” said Vettel.
Talking about the competitors of 2011, he said that apart from test timings and mileage, there is no clear distinction between the cars and the teams. He said about the fastest lap on Friday from the Mercedes car piloted by Michael Schumacher that there
are speculations that the German was on a low-fuel strategy, but said that still Schumacher’s effort was one to admire. He said that every car will be really tested in Australia where every team will have same fuel-load in its cars.
The final day of testing in Barcelona is underway but heavy rain has hindered the teams outing. The teams waiting in the pits are McLaren, Mercedes, Williams and Ferrari.
