Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel leads the timesheets in 3rd Practice Session: Spanish Grand Prix – Formula One News
The Red Bull dominance continues as Day 2 of the 3 day weekend at Spain kicked off with the 3rd and final practice session. Sebastian Vettel spent most of the period in the shade of the Red Bull garage but still managed to set the fastest time after a quick dash in the dying stages of the practice session. The World Champion’s time was a whopping 1 minute 21.707 seconds which was easily the fastest time of the weekend so far. His Red Bull teammate, Mark Webber wasn’t too far away with a 1 minute 21.791 second fastest lap.
The 3rd fastest driver was Michael Schumacher – More than a second slower than the leading duo. However, seeing the blistering form his teammate Nico Rosberg has been in so far this term, it is bound to be a confidence booster for the veteran.
The two McLarens followed up with Lewis Hamilton nearly two tenths faster than his teammate Jenson Button. The 2nd Mercedes bearing Nico Rosberg trailed the two British drivers. Kamui Kobayashi and Vitaly Petrov ended the session with 7th and 8th fastest times.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso looked a touch off the pace as he set the 9th fastest time with a 1 minute 24.270 – nearly two and a half second slower than the leading Red Bulls. Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa wasn’t far off this time as he finished 11th – five hundredths of a second separated the two Ferraris.
Williams’ Rubens Barrichello rounded up the top 10.
The weather remained consistent with a 22 degree centigrade, the forecast was sunny and the track was dry – Almost exactly like Friday.
With free practice finally wrapped up, the drivers get ready to start competitive qualifying later this day
Vettel spends most of the session in the garage but sets the fastest time the moment he heads out towards the end of the final practice. It's a Red Bull 1-2 but Schumacher is in the thick of things as he's third.
