Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel says team has room to improve for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel has said that the team needs to improve on various points before they can be ready to defend their title in 2012.
Vettel holder of two back-to-back drivers’ championship titles helping his team to two consecutive constructors’ championship titles believes the team lacks in certain areas and will need to make amends before the season starter in Melbourne.
The pre-season tests did not go as bad for Red Bull as others have had it, but it was not the same dominant show from the Red Bull camp as was expected of the defending champions.
Red Bull have been in a sort of dilemma for the season opening race as the team is deciding to go with completely new parts of the car after making some tweaks to it. It may turn out to be a gamble but it is yet to be seen what the management finally decides
to do in the end.
Vettel admitted that last year was a brilliant year for him and the team but conceded that on the Friday practice runs he had made a few mistakes and crashed the car a few times. He hopes to improve on that and improve his game all round.
“Yes, last year was nearly faultless,” the German is quoted by the Guardian newspaper.
“Fridays have been poor,” said the world champion. “I made mistakes. I crashed the car. We got the concentration back when it mattered but on Fridays you only have a couple of hours to prepare the car — so we can improve on that.”
“We had three very good tests, but not perfect,” Vettel admitted to RMC. “Sure, there were a few pieces here and there that worked less well than expected, but overall there were not too many surprises.
“I feel good with the car, it [Sunday] was no big deal,” he said.
Red Bull team advisor Dr. Helmut Marko said that the team is slightly ahead but he made no qualms of what he felt about the final day of the pre-season test. Vettel was last in the lap times and only completed 23 laps on the day. Marko described the day
as “s**t.”
Red Bull still are considered to be the favourites of the 2012 season and beating them would be an achievement for any team.
