Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel tops Malaysian Qualifying session – Formula 1 Update
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel put in a blistering performance to snatch pole position from McLarens’ Lewis Hamilton and team-mate Mark Webber for the Malaysian Grand Prix to take place on 10 April at the Sepang Circuit.
After the successful free practice session, the Malaysian qualifying session took place on 9 April, at the Sepang circuit.
McLarens’ Lewis Hamilton managed to secure second place during the exciting qualifying session in Malaysia. He will be looking to get a quick start to over-take his main rival Vettel during the start of the race. Lewis’ team-mate Jenson Button managed to
secure the fourth position during qualifying. McLaren are in a good position to put immense pressure on the Red Bull team during the race.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber had a brilliant run during qualifying, but it was only good enough for the third position on the grid. He will be looking to get a clean start and put pressure on his team-mate Vettel at the Sepang Circuit.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso secured the fifth spot during qualifying. After the session Alonso said, “One second between pole and us is too much. We must improve. Fifth place is the best we can do in qualifying - the first four cars are unbeatable for us.
In the race it's much closer, so we did our job, knowing we must improve."
Nick Heidfeld of Renault was able to get into the sixth spot on the grid during the exciting qualifying session. He will be followed by Ferrari’s Felipe Massa who is currently sitting at the seventh position.
Renault has a strong qualifying session, as they did not again face any engine failure problems in their new machine, as team driver Vitaly Petrov managed to finish eighth with a time of 1 minute and 454 seconds, in his R31 car.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP qualified in the ninth position on the grid. He will be followed by Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi. He managed to put in a strong performance for Sauber bringing the car within the top ten during qualifying.
Michael Schumacher qualified in the 11th position after having some difficulties with the car. Schumacher confirmed, "We had some issues with the rear wing activation today and unfortunately that's what compromised my last run in Q2. The car became
difficult to drive, which is a real shame as it had been working very well during the earlier runs.”
Torro Rosso’s Sebatien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari qualified 12th and 13th respectively. Paul Di Resta of Force India managed to qualify in the 14th position on the grid. He will be followed by Williams’ Rubens Barichello,
who qualified in the 15th position.
The race will be exciting as the top tier teams battle it out for the top honours in Malaysia. It will be interesting to see how the unpredictable weather conditions play a part in the race at the Sepang Circuit.
