Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel tops the qualifiers at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel says that the trust he has in the Red Bull car is the main reason behind his pole position at the Canadian GP qualifiers.
The temperature was hotter than it was during the Friday practice run which saw Lewis Hamilton to set the tone of the day. The warmer day allowed the Red Bull car to be in a stronger position and Vettel normally does not need an invitation to capitalise.
Vettel set the best time of the day and finished on top with Hamilton a close second. Ferrari continues to impress with its timely updates and Fernando Alonso showed just how competitive he can be as he finished third on a track that does not best suit the
track according to the team.
The other Red Bull driver and the winner of the Monaco Grand Prix Mark Webber finished 4th best on the day and further confirmed that Red Bull is going to be a strong contingent on race day.
Nico Rosberg was placed 5th which was a bit disappointing as the Mercedes car has the pace to give better results and they have shown good results in the qualifiers throughout the season.
Felipe Massa for a change has done well to finish sixth in the qualifiers, a welcome result for the Brazilian. He now must take this initiative and not let the opportunity go to waste. It may be his last attempt as saving a dying race seed with Ferrari beyond
2012.
Romain Grosjean finished 7th for Lotus ahead of Kimi Raikkonen who finished at a disappointing 12th position.
Placed at 8th was the Force India driver Paul Di Resta who has been hinted as a contender to replace Felipe Massa of Ferrari for the next season.
Michael Schumacher has been very unlucky throughout the season and the qualifiers scripted similar luck for the German who had to finish at 9th.
Jenson Button finished at 10th mainly due to some difficulty with the car.
The list of all the drivers and the times they finished their best laps at are as follows.
