Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel wins inaugural Indian Grand Prix in dominant fashion – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel displayed his dominance once again at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix and claimed the win in style.
Jenson Button came in second ahead of Fernando Alonso. Mark Webber was fourth and Michael Schumacher finished at an impressive 5th ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg. Lewis Hamilton was looking good, but had a collision with Felipe
Massa and moved down to 9th but did well to finish the race at 7th.
Vettel has now moved his tally to 11 wins in the season so far and the 24-year-old is now in contention for a record held by Nigel Mansell for 13 wins in a season.
It was near capacity crowd at the Buddh International Circuit and it provided for an exciting inaugural Grand Prix race in India.
There were casualties early in the race, as Kamui Kobayashi, Jarno Trulli and Rubens Barrichello were all involved in collisions which resulted in Sauber driver’s retirement and other cars involved to pit stops for repairs.
Massa and Hamilton had run-ins with each other once again, and this time Massa was the casualty. Although Hamilton has been criticised for his on track behaviour and Massa has been considered the victim, but today’s move on to McLaren was a shocking move
from the Brazilian.
Commentators condemned Massa’s driving as well and are predicting a harsh penalty from the stewards for Massa as the collision ended his race and almost ended Hamilton’s.
There was a tense battle for the top three around lap 40, as Alonso nipped over Webber. The Red Bull driver pressed Alonso right until the final lap but the Ferrari driver held his own and finished the race placed third behind Vettel and Button.
Vettel was waved in by the biggest sports icon in India, Sachin Tendulkar who waved the chequered flag for the winner.
It culminated an intense and successfully exhilarating finish to a historic first ever Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit. With almost packed stands, the Indian fans are sure to host even bigger future events in the country.
It still remains to be seen how Hamilton will take the incident and would he be as reactive to the incident as Massa has been previously.
