Red Cadeaux and Dunaden in close contention for the Hardwicke Stakes at the Ascot
The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes will witness Red Cadeaux and Dunaden lock horns over a distance of a mile and four furlongs on Saturday, 23rd June at the Ascot.
Racing besides them are eleven, four-year and older runners, who will invade the track for taking home the £113,420 prize money.
Dunaden, Nicobar’s six-year-old bay horse out of mare, La Marlia, is racing with 11 to 2 odds today, against the a fierce competitor, Sea Moon.
He won the Group 3 Prix De Barbeville – Beachcomber Hotels Le Dinarobin Luxe on 30th April at Longchamp over a mile and seven and a half furlongs.
He was riding with, Gregory Benoist, and won by a length.
His next graded success was in the Group 3 Handicap Centrebet Geelong Cup on 19th October at Geelong over a mile and four furlongs. This time he had Craig A. Williams onboard, and set the 21 to 10 favourite, Tanby, at a disadvantage of ¾ of a length.
On 1st November, he took a keen hold on the line-up of the Group 1 Handicap Melbourne Cup at Flemington over two miles. The leading pair, Red Cadeaux and Dunaden, were in contention to win, but Dunaden nosed out his rival.
Striking a hat-trick in group races, the six-year-old won the Group 1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase on 11th December at Sha Tin - which is run over a distance of 1 mile and four furlongs.
This was his final race and success of the 2011 campaign.
He has ended third in both the 2012 outings, and the most recent was won by, Aiken.
An equally threatening candidate is the six-year-old, Red Cadeaux. He has been pretty consistent lately, as Cadeaux Genereux’s chestnut gelding won the Group 2 Sportingbet Yorkshire Cup (British Champions Series) on 18th May at York.
With Tom McLaughlin taking the mount, the winner finished over the rest by a length, while the 9 to 4 favourite of the race, Harris Tweed, ended third in a field of eigth.
Both the remaining races culminated into second positions. Moving on with 10 to 1, he has all the chances of posing a threat for those racing along.
