Red Cadeaux on his way to Australia after a victory in the Sportingbet Yorkshire Cup
A trip to Australia is in order for Ed Dunlop trained, Red Cadeaux, who landed a massive victory in the Group 2 Sportingbet Yorkshire Cup (British Champions Series) at York on 18th May, 2012.
Mounted by rider, Tom McLaughlin, Red Cadeaux acquired the glorious win as he finished 1 length ahead of, Glen's Diamond.
Melbourne Cup seems to be his next destination, where he will be looking to seek revenge on, Dunaden. Red Cadeaux lost to him by a nose in the Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington on 1st November, 2011.
The two runners also locked horns in the Group 1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in December, 2011, where Dunaden triumphed, and Red Cadeaux finished third.
The son of Cadeaux Genereux , out of mare Artisia, previously notched a victory in the Group 3 At The Races Curragh Cup at Curragh on 25th June, 2011, where he was teamed with jockey, Tom McLaughlin.
The duo worked extremely well together and maintained their composure throughout the race, which resulted in a victory for the chestnut gelding by an immense margin of 9 lengths over, Zerashan.
The winning trainer was pleased with the performance of his globe-trotting horse, and commented on his first trip to Australia:
"He's adaptable from a mile and a half to a mile and six and he's won on good ground today so we know he acts on that. He was the first horse we took to Australia. He's not going to carry as little weight as he did last year and we will try to go one
better.”
Dunlop said that Tom McLaughlin will probably be riding Red Cadeaux in Australia, as he seems to know the runner well, since he mounted him in several races. He stated that:
"Tom has ridden this horse in races before and at home. He has worked for me for a long time and is an integral part.”
Over the course of his career, the Ronnie Arculli owned gelding has competed in 27 starts and scored six times. Australia seems to be a good venue for him to add another victory to his record.
