I'm looking into taking a course (as stated above) in Central Florida.

I'm not sure if I have to swim a 300 or 500.

Does anyone know which is the one required?

  1. Last year Red Cross changed the requirements for the pre-test from a 500 yard swim to a 300 yard swim, you will also be required to retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom of the pool (has to be at least 8 ft deep) and return the brick to the side of the pool with the brick above water.

  2. It used to be a 500, but they changed it last year to a 300.

  3. When I got certified a couple months ago we had to swim a 300.

    100 free

    100 breast

    100 choice

    hope this helps:)

  4. For the endurance half, it is a 300-yard continuous swim first 100 is front crawl, second 100 is breaststroke, and the last 100 is either one of those.

Then, there is the strength test where you are to swim twenty yards approach stroke (face out of the water front crawl) to the deep end.  Do a surface dive to get a diving brick then swim on your back twenty yards.  I would suggest doing your breaststroke kick for that part.

    Hope this helps!
