Question:

Red Sox, Yankees, and Tigers out of the playoffs?

There is a reasonable possibility that none of these teams will make the playoffs this year. What do you think about the possibility of the Rays, Angels, White Sox, and Twins in the playoffs? Good or bad for the game?

  1. LOL Can you see the networks letting that happen?  B.O.R.I.N.G.!

  2. uh

  3. Anyone that wouldn't watch the playoffs because those teams aren't in it, isn't a fan of baseball, they are simply a fan of the teams that wouldn't be involved.

I like exciting playoffs, but I could care less who is actually in the games.

What happened in the 80's when early 90's when Boston/NY weren't making the playoffs?

I think overall it would be good for the game to realize that even teams that spend $200 mil can miss the playoffs without a sound team.

  4. Good for the game! It just shows how unpredictable and interesting the sport can get!

As for the yankees, redsox, tigers here is my opinion

Injuries killed the redsox as wakefield is gone and bucholz is having an awful year

Yankees: Injuries/bad pitching/cant hit with RISP

Tigers: I had them in 4th going into the year. This is a prime example of how important pitching is!

  5. I have to believe that the Wild Card is coming out of the A.L. East so I believe that either the Twins or the White Sox will be the odd man out...if I were a betting man I would bet on the White Sox not making it...if I turn out wrong and the scenario you are suggesting happens I don't think that is bad for the game at all...it will mean that there has been a hard fought battle down the stretch and I think there would still be people watching the playoffs...there might not be the same ratings as a Red Sox vs. Yankees ALCS, but I would watch the Rays battle the Angels in the ALCS...it might actually be refreshing...that said I still want my Red Sox to win the World Series again this year.

  6. You can count the Tigers out but the Sox and Yanks will stick around. I'd like to see the Rays in the playoffs. I'm not a fan of theres but I couldn't help but pull for them. I think having them in would be good. :}

  7. it would be great for the game that for once the heavily favored teams are out. but i do see a good chance for the red sox getting into october.

  8. I think that what you are proposing is a strong possibility. The Tigers and the Yankees both have monumental deficits to make up, and with only a little more than a month to play they are going to have to have the teams that have been hot to suddenly go cold and be able to win games consistantly. The Red Sox are not out of it yet, they still hold the wild card, but as the long season trudges on, I see the once firing on all 8 cylinder 454 large block Red Sox team now missing like an old Ford Pinto 122- 4 cylinder.

If the notables in the AL are not there, keep in the mind the Angels are VERY strong contenders with a large market and if the Cubbies have the "finally" dream season, the ratings won't suffer.

  9. the yankees will beat out the red sox for the wild card, the tigers wont make it, and the rays will win the al east, the angels will win the west, and the twins will win the central. i dont really understand the good or bad for the game question, how would it be bad? the best teams make it the the playoffs.

  10. honestly if all three of these teams dont make the playoffs, the MLB's ratings for the playoffs will plummet severly. last year's red sox/rockies world series got awful ratings. and when the white sox won in 05, the impressive feat it was, got poor ratings as well

if we see anything (from that layout of AL teams) but an Angels/Cubs world series, the playoffs will get awful tv ratings. its sad but true.

no red sox and no yankees is going to murder the baseball ratings on the east coast, even with the mets in it (if they are)

but i do see your point that baseball's moneyball teams have a legitimate shot at not making the playoffs, and i dont think its good for the profit margins of the game, but as for the spirit of the game its very good..having small market teams succeeding is always great to see.

but i think having all those teams miss the playoffs will kill mlb revenue and profit as far as tv ratings and promos go

  11. I think this will be the AL play off matches

    Twins vs. Angels

                                        Angels vs. Rays              Angels win

    White Sox vs. Rays

I don't think the Yankees are making it because they are to far back, and that Manny trade was good for the Red Sox future, but bad for right todays  play off race.

This would be a good race for the game because of how many new teams there are, Ray and White Sox were in dead last place last year in there divisions and the Twihaven'tn't been in the play offs for a while, and they are a young team so it is good they will make it.

    !!!GO WHITE SOX GO!!!

  12. I think that it is great for the true Baseball fans that will watch no matter what to see different teams in the playoffs, I think it is great for the sport to get to see different teams than the usual suspects.  At the same time it is bad for MLB to not have at least one of the big teams in the playoffs and in the playoffs for a big run.  The ratings are much better when Boston or NY is involved (just a fact not my opinion) so when the ratings are high the revenue generated is high, which is the goal of the "business of MLB"...to make the most money possible.

I would be excited for it but at the league offices they would be screaming for their lives!

  13. thats a terrible playoff!...it would be pretty boring...and red sox are defianetly going to be in it...theyll find a way to get in

  14. Bad for us fans personally but, I think it would be pretty exciting for the fans of the teams that usually dont make it.

  15. It wouldn't be bad for baseball but I am still hopeful that the Yankees make the play offs.
