Red Sox acquire Alfredo Aceves and Denny Reyes
Alfredo Aceves and Dennys Reyes have reached a deal with the Boston Red Sox earlier this week. The Red sox are looking to increase their pitching depth both in the Major and Minor League. The Yankees’ former right-handed reliever, Alfredo Aceves, makes his
way in to the team for the upcoming Major League Baseball (MLB) season, while the lefty, Dennys Reyes, was slotted for the Minor League games.
The Red Sox have agreed to a sum of $650,000 for the right-handed Aceves to play for them in the major leagues. Additionally he will be receiving $200,000 for a minor league one-year contract. Anonymous source have also revealed that the deal will include
$100,000 in incentives.
On the other hand, Reyes will be part of the team for the same period for the Minor league season. Pam Ganley, spokeswoman for the Boston Red Sox, confirmed Reyes’s invitation to spring training session. The contracts finalized on Tuesday still require confirmation
from the team management and players.
The inclusion of the players in the Boston Red Sox line-up is the team managements to create a stronger bullpen this season. Keeping in view last years’ failure in the American League, Boston has already made some big trades, including Dan Wheeler, Matt
Albers and Bobby Jenks. The re-signing of left-handed Hideki Okajima is also a sign of this improvement process.
The 28-year-old Aceves has just recovered from collar bone injury that he received in a bicycle accident in Mexico, according to an official announcement by The Yankees earlier this winter. The injury bound him to just 10 games last season for the Yankees,
the only club he has played for since his debut in MLB. Before going to the disabled list on ninth May, he pitched in only 12 innings and set 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA.
His three season career has been good, as he set a 14-1 record with 3.21 ERA in 59 games. His 87 strike outs with 30 walks and only 15 allowed home runs in 126 innings shows his potential in the league. Alfredo Aceves looks to recuperate from injury by 2011
and get back to his 2009 season high of 10-1 with a 3.21 ERA.
The minor league contract with Dennys Reyes is not surprising, looking at the past experience of the left-hander. Last year was somewhat average for him as he set 3-1 record with 3.55 ERA in his 59 appearances for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 33-year-old
has been part of 10 Major League Baseball teams.
In his 14 year MLB career, the left-handed relief pitcher has played for several major teams including three seasons for the Cincinnati Reds and three years for the Minnesota Twins. His career led him to set 35-35 record with 4.18 Era in 669 games. He has
never been named a MVP or any other award.
Fans will be waiting to see if the pitchers make a difference for Boston Red Sox pitching performances. If so, Boston could be heading back to the World Series this year.
