Red Sox pick up Adrian Gonzalez on a trade deal
The winter meetings in Major League Baseball have nearly arrived and with the ball clubs preparing their respective offers for various free agents, action is picking up in a year that looks to close out in the coming
days. For many spectators, this is a great time to look onto baseball for some great off field activity. Teams are looking to build on a competitive roster and that entails selecting the right person for every position. The work is in no way, easy. Things
for General Managers apparently do not ease when replacements need to be sought out as well.
However, one of the deals to come through today doesn’t entail free agents moving across clubs but a trade. The Boston Red Sox have been in a rut, ever since the season of 2010 began. Now with the end of the tenure,
there are players looking to go out and one particular key player, Victor Martinez, has already gone away from the roster. There is a big list of players who are still on the injury list and while some are expected to recover soon, their form is a question
for the future.
However, a recent developing story has broken out and it is being reported that the club has made a trade deal for Adrian Gonzalez. The top ranking first baseman has been a part of the San Diego Padres line up for
a long time and his move to the Red Sox can invoke a good deal of confidence in the locker room. The three time All-Star player has come through on a trade with minor league prospects, Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentus.
The deal had been catching wind earlier but many considered the move to be a fragile one as many problems were coming through, on the negotiating table. The Boston side offered a 6 year deal but Gonzalez stressed
on an 8 year one instead. No confirmation on a figure has come in yet and there isn’t a contract detail either.
Kelly who was a first round draft pick for the Red Sox is an upcoming pitcher in the minor league and his loss to the Red Sox seems to play on the future misfortunes if the club, pending on the minor leaguers performance
in the long run. Rizzo was an upcoming first baseman and his loss to the club will be as immense as Fuentes’. The latter player is a cousin of Carlos Beltran.
