Paul Byrd to the Red Sox

Is that trade going to help the Sox, kill the Sox, or have no impact at all??

Same question for the arrival of Jason Bay and the departure of Manny Ramirez, who's been my favorite player since like 2001

  1. Getting rid of Manny was a big mistake, and Paul Byrd got roughed up his last start, so I don't know how much he'll improve their rotation

  2. Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers end up winning with the Ramirez/Bay trade for this year. Let's see what happens next year...

  3. I don't think Byrd is going to help the Sox too much at all. And right now, they need lots of help. As far as Manny goes.....never should have happened. They really downgraded their team. Yes, Bay is a good player, but he is not Manny. He's hitting home runs in Hollywood now.....

  4. It definatly helps w/Byrd. He's an improvement over Zink right now

As for Bay it's a downgrade but if Manny played like he did dogging it Bay's an upgrade

  5. I think Byrds a good pickup. Nothing special but a guy that can give you 3-5 wins which is very important in the East. Bay is a great player. Hes younger then Manny and is more dedicated. I definitely think Bay was a good pickup for the Sox.

  6. With Paul Byrd, I don't think it's going to make that big of an impact.  I don't there's anything wrong with getting him, as there's nothing wrong with adding a veteran pitcher.  I just don't see Byrd as the type of pitcher who's going to make that big of a difference over anything the Red Sox already have.

I can see losing Manny really hurting the Red Sox.  Bay is a good player, but he has no experience whatsover in a pennant race. let alone the playoffs.  Manny produced big time in the playoffs when he needed to.  I don't see Bay having the same impact that Manny did, at least not this year.

  7. Their staff did need the help, BUT Byrd was and is a sub 500 pitcher.  I guess the hope is he'll keep them in games and the offense will win it.

No Manny - it does hurt - the terror has been partly removed from the lineup.

  8. The Paul deal was a good pickup. The Red Sox are in contention and they needed pitching...Byrd happened to be the best pitcher on waivers. The Sox added a veteran pitcher who happened to be hot in last couple of starts.

Regarding the Bay-Ramirez trade...The trade was a downgrade in offense for the Sox but an upgrade in defense and the fact that Bay doesn't draw a lot of media attention with any crazy antics. By trading Ramirez away...the Sox are more focused with "Manny being Manny" out of the way.

  9. Losing Manny was a big loss, Bay is a good player and he'll run for the Sox but its a Hall of Famer  compared to a rookie of the year and 2 time allstar i think. Byrd isnt that good. Period. What they really need to do is put Bukholtz AAA 1/2.

  10. how will it kill them if they gave up almost nothing for him?
