Walked out the front door to get the paper this morning and this fellow had spun a large web blocking my path overnight. His body is reddish-brown, about an inch long, large abdomen with a large yellow dot/splotch on his back. I live on the Atlantic Coast of Central Florida. Anybody know what kind of spider this might be?

  2. Any help?:

    Could be a brown recluse

  3. I couldn't find a picture but there is a black widow spider called a red widow that has red with white spots.  Found in palmettos in the scrub-pine of central and south Florida. If Latrodectus bishopi  has the same characteristics as the more familiar Black widow its web would be irregular, the fibers much stronger than other webs and it would hide during the day.
