I'm actually surprised Ericsson isn't Dressing. I know he's not really needed, but He brings Fire on the ice everytime he's dressed.Even babcock mentioned he can't believe he isn't dressing. Kinda weird though.

Game 1 Mac was dressed in his place due to experence. Mac is much less of a liablity on the ice and brings leadership and scoring ability that Downey doesnt have.  Downey also takes stupid penalties, something you want limited this time of year.  Sad part is when Franzen returns someone has to sit.

for person that said dress Downey instead of Samuelson... yeah scratch a 10-15 min a game person that plays the point on the pp for someone that plays at most 5 mins and no special teams time.  thats smart.

Yeah how many points does he have.... might want to go check that one and delete ur answer.  he has 9 pts, which puts him at 9th during the playoffs for the wings.  while only 2 of those pts are goals the rest where assist.  he is also a plus/minus of 5.  and 8 pim. If your boy Downey was out there for about the same amount of minute (around 13min/game) do you honestly think he would only have 8pim and could have managed to get 9 pts.   Notable players with fewer points, McCarty, Draper, Filppula, Cleary, Drake.  in 56 regular season games Downey managed a whopping 3 assist and no goals.  and 116pim, to lead the team though only playing 2/3 of the games.  Like is said, he is a liablity on the ice, not someone I would want in during a meaningful game, esp against a pp like Pittsburghs

Babcock is one that likes finesse.  Aaron brought bruteness and fighting to the team, but Babs wants people that can score.

I think Downey should be playing instead of Samuelsson.  What the h**l has he done to earn his spot?  At least Downey will throw his body - and fists - around.

@Jay:  Babcock could easily replace Sammy.  How many points does he have so far?  He seems like an empty uniform to me.  I have yet to be impressed with him.

Hes a healthy scratch because Babcock thinks there are better players to have in the playoffs than Downey.  Its a shame though.  A guy gives it everything he has the whole season, but if he doesnt play in the playoffs, he wont get his name on the cup if Detroit wins.

Add:  Its really important to be able to roll 4 lines in the playoffs.  Downey is good for fighting and creating a little energy, but giving him more than 5 minutes of playing time a game is risky.  At this point, there arent a whole lot of fights either so he would pretty much only be good for creating energy.  They need more than that from their players at this time of year.
