  1. I hope it's a little colder and doesn't snow so much on the game next year, for the sake of the fans who'll be there. It's a great experience, but if the ice had been harder and the snow hadn't soaked everyone, it would have been better. If you get the chance to go, do it! I never had so much fun at a hockey game in my life!

  2. I have 3 problems with this:

    1.  Now that Detroit will be involved in one of the these games, it will be a long time before they will actually host one.  I would much rather see it in Michigan.

    2.  Its right after Christmas when no one has any money.  Thats going to make it really hard to get there.

    3.  The Hawks had Detroits number this year.

Of course I love the fact that this is happening, but the homer in me isnt happy with the way its happening because I want to be there.

  3. Not a bad match up......but its gotta be at Soldier Field for attendance

  4. I would love to go to this game whether it's at Wrigley Field or Soldier Field, but ultimately I agree with everyone who says the game would be awesome if it were at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor and Detroit was hosting Chicago. I'm not just biased because I go to UoM; being in the Big House for a sporting event is one of the most overwhelming, amazing experiences ever, and the stadium seats around 107,000 officially and regularly has more than 111,000 there for football games. But I can deal with the game being in Chicago if Michigan and Michigan State decide to have a Cold War rematch and have Michigan host it in the Big House.

  5. sweet

  6. with the blackhawks having a breakout season last year and all the fans starting to come back this would be great for the franchise with getting the fans back and showing the young core we have because not many people have seen it because we have been bad for a while

  7. Why not just have it on a harbor in Lake Michigan?

  8. theres so many rumors right now its hard to say, but that would be a cool matchup, i wwould go and see the Buffalo boy Patrick Kane. I went to the Winter Classic in B-lo and it was awsome! so I deff recommend going to the next.

  9. Wrigley,

I hope I can get seats for under $200.00 a ticket.

  10. Well looks like Ill be driving to Chicago instead of going to the NYE game this year :(.  Hopefully the teams bust out some sweet jerseys like those blue ones the Pens wore this year.  The concept of the outdoor game is great.  Sadly it is probably much more beneficial to the league to play the game in Chicago rather than in Ann Arbor at the Big House.

  11. Great idea.  Both teams should be battling for the division next year.  Storied franchises.  Good story with the hawks finally emerging at the end of the tunnel of misery.

  12. It should be a fun game to watch.

  13. Its official, I have a source inside the blackhawks organization... it will be announced when stan mikta and bobby hull sing the 7th inning at the cubs game. the game will be at wrigley field, and it will have no effect on the wings new years eve game because it is set to be on like the 13th of january.

  14. Good stuff. Original six teams, a rivalry being renewed, and the third largest market in America.

Scott D.  do you mean jerseys like http://www.rivercitysports.com/US/zoom-0...

  15. So I suppose that will ruin the New Years Eve Game in Dteroit then? There was a rumor that they might try to set up an outdoor game at Mich Stadium, which would have been the right move for this. You put 107,000 plus fans in MI Stadium for football, how many more can you fit for an OUTDOOR CLASSIC Hockey game?

NHL is missing the boat. The area in and around Detroit/ANN ARBOR could fill and sell out easily, with the help of say a game vs Toronto /Montreal/CHI. I would keep it as 2 Original 6 teams.

New Years Eve is traditionally played in Detroit.

You have  a little milder temp than any of the Canadian Cities even Chicago. Detroit/Ann Arbor , bordering Windsor, 4 hours from Toronto, a game between Detroit and Toronto at MICH Stadium would pull in the numbers huge for the NHL.

I am all for a classic 1-2 times a year to get more teams involved...Keeps the roots of hockey alive!

  16. I read that on yahoo then click sports than click nhl and it said that they are not sure but they think there will be a game in chicago but the plans are not yet official

  17. sounds great to me. even better than last year's, w/ original 6 teams.

i'd like to see a non-divisional original 6 outdoor game!!!

  18. AWESOME!!! Except for the fact that the Blackhawks suck soooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad.

  19. excellent choice. an always good red wing team and an up and coming hawks team.

  20. If it's true, a good call.  Chicago is a real up-and-coming team in a market that may just turn good.  Obviously them hosting (potentially) the Stanley Cup champions works.  We'll hope for a cold dry day and a good fast game.

  21. Sounds like a great match up. I also heard their being talk of the Pens and Devils playing at Happy Valley in Penn State

I hope the Winter Classic become a tradition every year. That game between Pittsburgh and Buffalo was absolutely tremendous. I have an officially licensed Malkin Jersey like they wore in that game. I wonder if other teams will pull out their "old style jerseys" when it comes to playing in the Winter Classic?
