Red bugs/mites that bite, but leave no bite mark or irritation?

I live in Oklahoma and for as long as I can remember I have seen these bugs/mites. They are about the size of a flea-maybe a little bit smaller. They are red in color and are almost transparent. I can't see any legs but the trunk shape does not look like a spider so I ruled out that species. The trunk seems to be long, like a narrow oval shape. They bite and jump, but leave no bite mark or irration. Just the bite is what catches you off guard. Lighter colored clothing seems to attract them and I seem to only get/see them when in grassy areas, like a yard. They are not chiggers though. I've google'd this all morning and cannot find anything! If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it!
