Hi. When changing the water of a red tailed slider turtle, how much should i change? Also, is changing the water potentially harmful? Because the water would be infected by salmonella. Thanks!

  1. With a good filter (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com) you only need to change about 1/4th of the water weekly.

Poorly filtered water often carries Salmonella, well-cleaned water rarely does. Wash your hands when you are finished handling the turtle or touching any wet stuff associated with it.

  2. Never kept turtles but i would say 25-30% of the water providing you have good filtration.

I wouldn't worry about salmonella, you got more chance catching it from a kitchen side or eating eggs.

  3. You should change the water like 1 time a week.

I have a xp3 filter in a 55 gallon tank and even then I still change the water once a week.

But if you have a weaker filter you will have to change the water more.

    So get a good filter.

    And it all depends.

    How big is your tank?

    How big are your turtles?

    etc..
