Red eyed Tree Frog Housing?

I dont have a red eyed yet but when i do get one or two i want to put down some smooth pebbles on the bottom and fill the bottom with an inch of water and have a little waterfall thing instead of eco earth or stuff like that, i thought it would help keep humidity up and i read that they are good swimmers, would that be ok to do that or would it be best just to have a water bowl and some eco earth or something, also i thought it would drive the crickets up higher where the frog would normally be
