  1. they banned that last year for us too. SUCKS!!

  2. I'm in favor of keeping Dodge Ball (some schools are banning that too) because Dodge Ball is about the ball.

Maybe, though, because of the physical contact with Red Rover, schools may feel there's something about the game that could lead to injuries the school doesn't want happening in its schoolyard.  Red Rover in your neighborhood is one thing.  Whether the school people want it played on their grounds (and risk some parent blaming them for their kid's injury) is probably less about the game and more about keeping behavior in the school yard a little more tame.

You have all your after-school hours and weekends to play Red Rover if you want.  You have - what - a total of about a half-hour a day five days a week.......    You can do without Red Rover at school.

  3. good to ban...kids can play it in the park or neighborhood

got my tooth chipped playing the game but it sure was a lot of fun

  4. well your school has a reason to take away this game because engeries can happen like one boy at my school broke his arm by playing this

  5. Nothing to do otherwise?   Use your imagination!  Play ball --jump rope -- hopscotch ( do they still play that?) --Act out TV shows --tag

You have many options --you just don't want to try them!

  6. That's stupid.

  7. They Banned It At My School Too!They Thought The Boys & Girls Were Getting "Too Close." Just Because We Played Boys Vs. Girls Doesn't Mean It Was Too Close!!!

  8. It's because kids these days are insane. When we played it in school, the harshest thing you had to deal with was people holding hands too tight and not letting you through. Maybe pushing you backwards if it was a 'tough kid'.

When my son was in elementary two years ago, they had to stop letting them play it because kids would punch the runners in the larynx, or kick them in the balls, or two boys would get into a fistfight because the runner tried to pass through their section. Runners would purposefully go at kids they hated, and cause bleeding or what-have-you by kicking, scratching or full on tackles.

Talk to the parents and to the kids, if the kids weren't acting like that, you'd have a lot more freedom of what to play at school. On top of that, parents suing schools like crazy every time someone gets hurt, the schools can't afford the insurance anymore. On top of that, they can't discipline the kids because it's not PC.

  9. Yeah it got banned when I was in school too!I loved that game, kids need to toughen up!

  10. Forget about the  "there is nothing else to do" thought, and ask a teacher who is caring and interested enough to take the time to help you figure out some fun!

There are books at the library (public or school), ask the reference librarian for good recommended reading for your age group and where you play-indoors, outside, lawn, asphalt, etc.

Also ask your parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles, the older folks in your family/friends for some of their favorite games at your age.

It's sad, but schools are sued so much anymore, it's gotten ridiculous as to what the restrictions are.

You could maybe even ask the school administration for a list of reccomended/approved games as you just want to have some fun at recess.

If I worked at your school. I would be happy to help you with this.

Edit this question with your age, play area, & other limits, and you can get some more specific answers.

Good luck, and have a fun New Year!

  11. Haha. I see. When I was at my elementary school, it was never banned. We played it almost every month :] It was fun. Your school probably thinks it as a safety hazard, because of the pushing and sometimes force. Also, you have to think about if the kids let go of the hands and you are running you might trip or fall. But I think it's alright as a game to play once in a while :] Tell them to just lighten up. And play it on the grass just to be safe ;] haha.

  12. thats appauling..when i went to school, we always played it..i think people today are too much into safety..when i went to school, we didnt use bike helmets or knee pads, we used to play with bugs and go miles away from home just to play in an open field kicking cans, ect..i know the staff at the schools are around my age, and i guess they have to follow rules about what goes on in todays society, but not being able to play red rover is stupid..that game is not dangerous..well, happy new year anyways..

  13. it does seem ridiculous BUT they banned it for a reaon. too many children got killed or injured when playing the game. be glad that someone cares what you are doing - many schools don't have that.

    take care! SD
