Question:

Red spots on my blue platy?

At first I found a white spot on her tail which I assumed was ick, so I separated her from the others then treated her. After it was gone I noticed a fairly large red spot on her head. It kind of looked like something painfully ripped her scales off. I don't know what to do; what if I was too late in taking her out the tank, will that mean that all my fish are doomed??

I tried getting a picture, but not successfully. Heres the best ones:

  1. I'm sorry but I'm not able to see the pictures :(

  2. That's hemorrhaging from septicemia, which is caused by a bacterial blood infection.  Do a water change, remove any activated carbon from the filter, and begin treating with Maracyn TC, Maracyn 2, Triple Sulfa, Trisulfa, Metronidazole, Hexamit, Flagyl, Furan 2, or Kanaplex as directed.  If using Maracyn 2 or Maracyn TC, leave the lights off, as the active ingredients degrade with exposure to light.
