Our pool has been very nasty so we drained it to get all the dirt/muck/etc out and as it got low enough get in and brush the walls and clean I have notice SEVERAL very small, half inch or less.. deep red, wormlike bugs. they move quickly and tend to curl up. I picked a few up with some needle nose pliers and realized when taken out of water they die. Does anyone know what these are?

  1. You probably aren't gonna like this answer....

They are probably a type of mosquito larvae called bloodworms. The color is due to hemoglobin.

the dunks contain a bacillus that occurs naturally in soil. with the scurge of west nile virus being carried by mosquitos these dunks are very necessary.
