Question:

Redbellied toads again?

How many red bellied toads can i put in a 30 gal or a 20 gal tank? i know they grow to about 3 in Have two in a 5.5 gal tank and they are really happy so would it be ok to put like 8-10 int the 30 gal and like 6-8 int the 20 gal? what do you think?

  1. are we talking about fire belly toads (bombina) or red belly toads (Melanophryniscus) i asume your talking about fire belly toads since chances of getting your hands on 10 red belly toads in pretty much impossible lol

    personally i think 2 in a 5.5 is way too small. 5or6 in a 20 gallon 8 to 10 in a 30.

They will not grow to three inches in a 5.5, which is way to small.  Frogs develop based on their environment to an extent.  Bullfrog tadpoles will almost never develop in an aquarium with only water for example, but if you begin taking out water they can develop over night almost.  The point is, the bigger the better as far as tanks are concerned, and if you want big frogs then use big tanks.  Put in a lot of foliage and hiding places so they can have some natural barriers and you can occasionally put more in a tank and still avoid fighting.

  3. In a 20 gallon tank you should only put 5 and in a 30 gallon you should put 8-9.
