Redding Colliery snaps the losing streak after 14 months by winning the Evening Attire Stakes on 28th January at Aqueduct
Riding with Alan Garcia, Redding Colliery won the $73,500 Evening Attire Stakes on 28th January at Aqueduct. The six-year-old horse of Mineshaft out of Joop, covered the 1 1/16 mile on dirt in a minute and 43.05 seconds.

The 4 to 5 favourite of the race, I Want Revenge, came almost neck to neck around the final turn with the pacesetter of the race, Redding Colliery. Even though, I Want Revenge did put an all out effort, but he could not impact Redding Colliery’s will
to win, who defeated him by 2 lengths.
I Want Revenge finished closest to the winner, who was followed in by Jimanator, finishing the race third.
When he saw the others coming up he gave me a little push and kicked on and finished well,” said Alan Garcia “I knew my horse would give me a good finish, and I didn’t know how fit the favorite was.”
It has been after fourteen months that, Redding Colliery, made his second start while he last won the Grade 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup on 2nd October, 2010, at Hawthorne Race Course, which was raced over a distance of 1 ¼ mile on
dirt.
Through the seven times that Redding Colliery raced in 2010, he won thrice and was placed thrice.
He won an allowance race on 2nd January, 2010, at Aqueduct that was over at 1 1/16 miles. After two winless starts, Redding Colliery won the Grade 3 Lone Star Handicap on 31st May 2010.
During the previous year, he came onto the tracks just once, and even that attempt left him finishing sixth in the Swatara Stakes on 23rd November, 2011 at Penn National.
“The Hay family has been so patient with this horse,” said Artie Magnuson, who assists trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. “They get all the credit for just letting us take our time. I’m so happy for them. Kiaran might want to take him to Florida; it’s whatever
Kiaran and the Hay family decides. It’s good to see him back on track”.
The connections have not rushed the horse through races, and their patience did pay in the end, any announcement regarding his next race has not surfaced yet, but such a seasonal debut will make them looking out for future racing chances soon.
