Redecorating Ideas Needed for a 2 Room Apartment! Can you get me out of the 80's era please? ?

I need to update all the decor in my small 2 room apartment. It's way too 80's and I'm sick of it. I am not buying new furniture, but I can put a slip cover on the couch and replace the bedspread and drapes. The colors I have now are dark blue with a bit of pink in the living room, and in the bedroom I have light mossy green and burgundy. My rooms are so small that the dark colors make it look smaller. I need to brighten it up. My furniture is dark wood and very colonial, but I'm stuck with that for now, and I'm not painting it or anything.

Pictures would be appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Go to Ikea

  2. there are a ton of sites on the 'net for d.i.y. ideas.  make the effort to look into those.

paint the walls - paint is cheap! if that isn't possible then i would suggest  if your living room is dark blue and you want it brighter and trendier then add some lime green and hot pink throw pillows and vases etc. to make it pop!

moss green and burgundy - ugh - i think you have to just break open your piggy bank and buy a bucket of paint and paint the walls.  go for bright cheerful colors to brighten up your room..

  3. go light neutral colours this will make the rooms look much bigger

a pale yellow or pale blue would also work if cream isnt yr thing,

  4. With a small apartment, I would keep the colors throughout very similar but just slightly different shades.  Sage greens without a heavy yellow tint are great.  Slip cover the sofas and chairs in cream.  Add color by selecting a rug over the carpet to define the living room area.  Anything goes with sages so you can do a rug that introduces reds, purples, others greens, yellows and blacks.  Draperies should be clean and a solid color.  I would choose the sage.  Do the same for the bedroom except create a spa look for that room.  Keep your comforter or duvet in a cream with throw pillows that would pick up soft accent colors.  Choose a throw to accent the end of the bed in a solid accent color.  Keep your artwork something that is contemporary in design that again adds those extra colors.  Do not choose landscapes, or defined florals.  Keep the artwork very contemporary with good use of color that adds to your design.  Do the same with any accessories.  Keep it simple and clean.  Lamps should not be too contemporary nor too traditional.  And make sure your bathroom follows suit with your new colors and design.  Create a spa look.  Clean and simple is best with a fresh white fabric shower curtain and a mix of white and cream towels.  Accessorize by punching in a color but not a jumble of colors.  Good clean contemporary art is a plus in the bath as well.  Stay away from themes anywhere.  Instant update.
