Question:

Redecorating bedroom?

My fiance has left me in charge of the decorating (woooo) but I'm unsure what colours to pick.

All the furniture is oakwood. (I think, it's the dark brown wood.)

I was thinking wallpapering one wall and painting the others an off-white colour, but it seems the look is really popular.

Anyone got any ideas?

What colours go nicely together?

Oh and would you put a bed in front of a window? Strange question I know, but I'm worried about a spider coming in through the window and crawling on/in the bed!

Thanks.

  1. Get a color wheel and learn to use it (it's not difficult).  It has helped me determine what colors accent or compliment each other.  When I see a room on TV, in a magazine, etc.using colors I have used, I feel reassured about my choices and ability to choose.

I don't care for a bed in front of a window, but that is my choice and not a design statement.

  2. I have just finished decorating my bedroom too. I went for the off white colour as it goes with everything, that way I can just have different colour bedding etc to brighten it up.

Also I have my bed under window too but thats only cos it wont fit anywhere else cos our bedroom is so pokey. I think most ppl have it under window anyway.

  3. Here is some examples of some fun, modern wallpaper (there are tons of selections within each option on the page).  Then choose your paint color to compliment your wallpaper...its easier that way. I really love the new damask style wallpapers, i am thinking of putting some in my house.I am a big fan of blues and browns or greens and browns together. And if you are looking for more drama, some wallpaper with some red in it would look awesome with your dark brown furniture.

As far as putting furniture in front f a window, i would say a dresser is better then a bed. Aside from the spider thing...the window area tends to be warmer in the summer and a lot colder in the winter especially if its an older place.

  4. Well, my bedroom was re decorated as a surprise by my (very un-colour co-ordinated dad)  And he did 3 cream walls, and one red feature wall, and the rest of the room is brown, accessories etc.  And it is soooo cool!  the brown really compliments the red!

  6. Lol, it depends how low down your window is because with mine you can sit on the window sil and it's like a seat so I think a bed in front of that would look weird, but if it's higher up so the bed is under the edge it looks fine.

The wallpaper on one wall looks really nice!  Just pick an unusual wallpaper if you want to look unique.

Hmm and colours that go together,

    well cream goes with everything!

Cream & red, is lovely toghether (not a fire engine red though)

    Turqouise & light brown

Different shades of browns are nice together

    Red, black & white

Brown and a deep red with golden accesories would look amazing!

Different shades of dark purples and maybe a bit of red

If the room is small choose light colours and if it's a quite big then you can go for the darker colours.  And if you're not sure on the colour, buy the tester pots and see what it looks like at different times of the day.

And when you're finished get LOTS of cushions for the bed, it really brings the room together.

Good luck & I hope some of this helps!
