  1. I think your idea is a very generous one.  If you could afford it, you'd give your mom the world.  I'm sure if she could, she'd do the same for you.  However, you need to be realistic about what you can truly afford.

As a parent, I would want my working child to become more self-sufficient vs. buying me something extravagant.  That's a parent's job ... to be sure our kids take responsibility, think with level heads, and grow into happy, healthy, well-balanced adults.  What your describing is a suitable gift if it's given from a grown child who has already realized all of his/her materialistic wants/needs.

Why not look into doing a some really nice landscaping?  (You could do some of it yourself and save some money).  Maybe even do a section of the yard just for her instead of redoing the whole yard!  You could make her a garden oasis, of sorts, complete with an arbor entrance, water feature, high-end lounge chair, etc.

I'm sure no matter what you do, your mom will be thrilled.

  2. Why not get rid of the trampoline and refinish the deck.  You could get a great fountain and some beautiful potted plants for the deck and perhaps plant a flower garden in the yard.  Then I'd get a great lounge chair or hammock to give her a special spot for reading and/or tanning.  It's wonderful that you love your mom so much :)
