I'm 15 years old and I'm trying to redecorate my room. My window takes up a whole wall and is covered in this frustrating cartoon print that came with the house which I cant change because curtains that I like for that size are too expensive (for my budget). I'm also not allowed to paint the walls. This room makes me feel empty and I'm going crazy just sitting here! help! any tips welcome!

    thank you sooo much!

  2. I don't have recommendation about the window except try looking for cheaper window panels in a neutral color.  And, I saw this tip on HGTV for someone living in an apt. that couldn't paint their walls.  They got large canvas panels that you'd find in art supply stores, painted them, and hung them on all the walls.

  3. I love the first person's idea about the canvas panels!  You could also just get cheap dropcloths from a paint supply place or Home Depot to do the same thing.

Try thrift shops and garage sales--you would be surprised at what  you can find for window treatments (and anything else) at much cheaper prices.  I've seen some awesome curtains at thrift shops, but you have to be patient--it sometimes takes a few trips to find the right thing.  A lot of people are just using sheets for curtains now--no sewing required, just shove the top edge through the curtain rod.  It's even cheaper if you can find them used.  Be creative and be willing to try something that is out of the ordinary.

Command makes a brand of hooks that use adhesive that doesn't damage walls, if you aren't allowed to use nails to hang pictures.  I sometimes find the hooks at the 99 Cent store.

There is a starch technique for putting fabric on your walls if you can't paint them.  You just soak the fabric in starchy water and apply like wallpaper to your walls.  The fabric just peels off when you need to change it back.  You can get directions for that on the HGTV website.  A friend did it, and her room looked awesome.  Fabric is pricey, so again try thrift shops and garage sales.

Also, get the word out to your family members and friends that you are looking for fabric, window treatments, anything like that.  You might be surprised at what you end up getting for free!

  4. Try changing your bedspread. It makes a huge diffrence. Also find cool lampshade and some modern pictures.
