Redeemed posted an easy victory in the Brooklyn Handicap
Jay Em Ess Stable owned 4-year-old colt, Redeemed, was sent as the 2 to 1 favourite to win the Grade 2, $200,000 Brooklyn Handicap on the back of a crushing 9 ¾ lengths victory over his opponents in the 1 1/8 mile off-the-turf, Milesius Stakes at Belmont
Park.
Honouring his favoured odds, Redeemed spurted away right from the outset, under jockey Ramon Dominguez and never looked back, and went on to post an equally staggering victory of 10 lengths.
The Brooklyn Handicap was Redeemed’s second victory in a row of the new 2012 campaign in four starts.
“He’s been running with good horses, and he’s been showing up," Dutrow said. "I don’t know what’s next in store for him, but we’re going to have to stay after the big races. We’ll just have to see what’s next."
Richard Dutrow Jr. trained Redeemed was the top weight, carrying 121 pounds in a field of 11 runners, had to overcome some extra distance in the start due to have drawn on the outside.
Breaking from post number 10, the son of Include was angled on the inside, and while attempting that his unmatched early pace helped him clear off his rivals as they all straightened nearing the first turn.
Redeemed downed half mile in 48.12 seconds and a mile in 1 minute and 37.19 seconds.
“He relaxed beautifully for me, and when it was time to go turning for home he responded beautifully and galloped out strong," Dominguez said. "I wasn’t overly confident, because you don’t know about the distance with any of them. We don’t run these distances
daily, but I couldn’t be any happier with how well he relaxed for me."
The big move was made by the winner of the 2011 Brooklyn Handicap, Birdrun to catch Redeemed, but tired early to give way to Eldaafer.
The 26 to 1 shot for the Brooklyn, Eldaafer, was at an advantage over the weakening, Kentucky Reign, and pushed his limits coming off the final bend, only to realise that Redeemed had wrapped it up, leaving no room for the competitors to challenge him.
