Redeeming EE savings bonds?

the treasury website says you can go to your local bank to redeem bonds, then it says you can only redeem $1000 at a time. What does that mean? If you have $3000 to redeem you have to go back 3 seperate days, weeks months? years?

That would be $1000 per transaction. So go in one day and redeem $1000 and return to the bank two more days or two more banks that same day.
