Question:

Redfield scope and lifetime warranty?

My dad is old fashion and has been using the his same rifle and scope since the 1970s. The rifle is a Rem. 700 ADL .270. Anyways he clams that all Red field scopes have a lifetime warranty, but I really dont know about that being honored because the company has been bought out and sold many times. Now it is owned by Leupold. The problem is that it is not as clear and when looking through it objects look hazy or yellowish. I know its old and he probably needs a new one, but it was a gift from his twin brother years ago who has passed away. All it reads on the scope is Redfield 2X7X, all the other words are on the bottom and I would need to take the scope off to read. And its also a variable wide angle.Should I call Leupold and see if they still honor the warranties? Or is it not worth it and should I just bring it in to a gunsmith?

  1. They may have a lifetime, but it's been a long time since they've made scopes.  The company is out of business.  The only thing I'm not sure of is if there is a company out there that bought Redfield.  Therefore, you have no more warranty.

Retire the scope and get a new one.

    That is my suggestion.

  2. I'd give them a call, they are nice folks on the phone.

    1-800-Leupold

  3. I don't believe Redfield has made telescopic sights in a few years.  They were mostly a manufacturer of bases and rings when Leupold bought them (they always had a better reputation for bases and rings than Leupold).  I still have a Redfield 4-12 on my .300 Weatherby and I really love the gun/scope set-up.  I've hunted in pouring rain and never had a problem with it fogging.  Look around the internet and maybe find someone to clean your scope.  It may not be free of charge, but it should not be too expensive either.
