Redknapp Extends Spurs Contract
Harry Redknapp has signed an extension to his contract, which will keep him as Tottenham Hotspur manager until at least 2013.
Redknapp's previous deal was due to expire in 2011 but after the success of the club last season it seems they have wasted no time at all in getting him to stay. There had been a few rumours flying around that Redknapp may refuse to sign in order to manage England but these have now been dismissed.
Redknapp is a typically English manager who likes to use conventional tactics and skilled players as a method to win games. He will have the chance to try his hand at managing a team in the Champions League next season, which he has described as one of his dreams.
There are many benefits to Redknapp staying on at Spurs and he has already hinted that he could stay at the club for much longer than 2013. However, there will always be the lingering question hanging over the club of whether Redknapp would walk away to manage his country at some point in the future.
Benefits
Redknapp has settled down well at Spurs after a controversial move from Portsmouth some time ago. He has branded his very efficient management style over the team and he has got them playing productive and solid football.
Spurs have tasted success with this manager and although they did not win any trophies last season, the fact the club will now play in the Champions League is huge. This will give the boss a chance to pit his wits against some of the best managers in Europe and the world.
Many players who have joined the club in recent times have all said that Redknapp is one of the main reasons that they decided to join Tottenham. This has to be because of his personal qualities and the way that he can spread his enthusiasm to other areas.
Spurs really are delighted that he has signed on. A statement on the club's website said: "The club is delighted to announce that we have extended the contract of manager, Harry Redknapp, until 2013."
Lingering Danger
Redknapp has never tried to hide the fact that he is a very proud and passionate Englishman and he always has something to say about the national team. The question of him managing the England team was raised after the poor performance of the country in the World Cup.
Although Spurs will dismiss these rumours out of hand, the England job could well be the only job that Redknapp would leave the club for. He would have to get permission from Spurs to do this but he would be one of the leading candidates if Fabio Capello ever resigned or got the sack.
The point is that even if this happened the club would be in a very good position to move on and remain strong. Redknapp has made sure that the structure of the club is very good and this means that Spurs will stay a solid side for years to come.
Advice
Spurs have never played in the Champions League before so you are well advised to wait and see how they start. They have to get through a tricky qualifying match first but they should do this with ease.
The only people betting on the club to win the Premier League next season will be Spurs fans. They lack the extra quality and consistency needed and not even Redknapp could solve this. If you want to bet on them domestically then take it on a match by match basis.
