Redknapp believes Bale is best in England
Tottenham's manager Harry Redknapp says Gareth Bale is the best player in England, and there is no replacement for him in the club’s squad. Gareth Bale was unable to impress at his previous club Southampton, and is now making a mark at Tottenham with his
brilliant form. He not only managed to put Tottenham through to the Champions League knockout stages with, but has also been scoring in every crucial fixture including a match-winning performance against arch-rivals Arsenal, which is pleasing for the manager.
Redknapp told reporters, “For me, at this particular time, he's got to be the footballer of the year in this country. I can't think of anyone who’s done as well as him. He's not a player that we would really want to sell. You've got to hang onto your
best players.”
There are rumours circulating about a possible swap deal for Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor and Gareth Bale, but that was later waived off by Harry Redknapp. In a press conference held at White Hart Lane, Redknapp said,
“Yeah I thought we'd have a straight swap. I thought it sounds like a good deal. It's not April 1st is it? I've never made any inquiries regarding him. I keep reading in the papers that we're after him but that's nothing but a big lie. Gareth Bale is
going nowhere right now, as I’m not planning to put him on sale but my decision wouldn’t be final.”
Redknapp said he was not too interested in the January transfer window. He added that he’s looking for someone who can go the extra mile in improving the club’s performance, but that that is always difficult, as other clubs are in the race to find such players
as well. He said that his squad includes the best players from around the world, and he’s not in the mood to improve his team at the moment, as it will only spoil the current mix of players. The Tottenham manager however also spoke about his aspirations about
managing England.
“You never know. Honestly, I don't go home and think I want to be manager of England. All I've said is if an English guy gets offered it would be hard to turn it down. Managing Tottenham is making me happy. In two years time, who knows that someone
else comes in and do much better than this."
Redknapp is no doubt the man of the moment, as the Football Association disclosed that Fabio Capello would hold the England post until 2012, so it gives Harry a lot of time to stake his claim for the job. Currently Tottenham are doing well in the Premier
League, and face one of their sternest tests when they play defending champions Chelsea this weekend. Gareth Bale and the squad will be looking to take advantage of Chelsea’s dip in form and move further up the table, while Chelsea will be looking to regain
their lost touch after their 1-1 draw with Everton last week.
