The former Tottenham boss claims that the centre-back should channel his energies into making the most of his remaining time at Old Trafford rather than worrying about playing for England.
Rio Ferdinand’s time with the Three Lions might have taken a turn for the worse, as Roy Hodgson recently revealed that the former Leeds United man will not be called up for the World Cup qualifiers later this month.
Time has taken its toll on the marauding stopper and he no longer possesses the pace to recover from occasional errors in his game.
And with Nemanja Vidic’s absence at the Theatre of Dreams, Ferdinand has perhaps been over exposed whilst dealing with quality forwards this season.
His snubbing during the summer was widely condoned by the public, who claimed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 should have been dropped instead of the veteran defender.
However coach Hodgson has been watching the England International on a regular basis and recently revealed to a passenger in a tube that Rio would indeed be sidelined again.
According to the ex-West Brom boss, the 33-year-old needs to phased out so that youngsters can be given a chance to prove themselves on the biggest stage.
While the situation is far from perfect, Harry Redknapp claims that Ferdinand should move on from the ordeal and instead focus on domestic duty with Manchester United.
“I don’t think he needs all that aggro any more. He still has a couple of years left in him at the very top level — maybe more if he is not playing for England. And if he’s not wanted then he shouldn’t waste his time even thinking about England.”
“Concentrate on playing for your club. Focus on that and he probably won’t miss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. He’s not exactly been a regular for a while now and has had his injuries. Were Rio in his prime then this would be a bombshell. But Rio should listen to his body.”
