&& i want to redo EVERYTHING!!

I just turned 16 && my room looks like a old woman lives there!

I was thinking a plain colored bedspread like blue or pink with zebra striped sheets

then painting 3 walls blue or pink (or watever the bedspread is) and the going to a fabric store & getting zebra striped fur & covering 1 wall.......

but the again I like all the bedroom ideas on ikea..but they're expensive

please help...

  1. Go with classy and slight funky, not wild and over the top. Remember that you have to live in that room for at least another two year.

I would go with blue for the walls. It is calming, easy to match stuff with, and it is less expensive than pink paint. Not by much like 73 cents, but still it is cheaper.

So paint the walls a pretty shade of blue. Invest the most money in lighting and in bedding. Good sheets will last you a life time. And the proper lighting can literally brighten your day.

I would get some very soft sheets, we are talking like 900 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, And a good white down comforter.

If you still want a really unique room . I would try maybe painting some cool sort of loose swirl design on the walls in either a lighter or darker blue, or in a matching colour like purple or green.

I would then match the accents in the room to the accent paint swirl colour on the wall. The curtains or sheers, the throw rugs, and the pillows on the bead.

The first step to a beautiful room, is to have a clean room. That means getting rid of clutter, and maintaining a hygienic living space.

Have a desk, and a book shelf. A dedicated area for your studies, and to house all of your study stuff.

For a really one of a kind affect, you can buy the bookshelf and the desk at a flea market. That way you get a deal, and something your friends won't have. I love the flea market. But do your research before you go. They will try to sell you something over priced. Be prepared to haggle, and also to walk away.

You can also fill the room with unique vintage finds, like really cool posters of old vegetable labels. Seriously they are oil painted, and absolutely stunning. Fairies appear on lots of turn of the century asparagus labels. Anyway, flea market good for one of a kind furniture, and nick nacks.

Good luck. Remember that what you do to the room will affect resale value, and also good quality linen will last you a life time. I am really serious about that. My parents received towels for a wedding gift, and they are still in great condition 37 years latter.  Anyway, good luck I am sure what ever you do will be beautiful.

  2. You're idea sounds cute. You could even get a matching rug! :)

  3. Those are great ideas for a teen bedroom! Happy birthday, by the way.

Redoing your room doesn't have to be expensive. You should be able to find some good-quality bedding for a relatively low price at close-out stores such as Big Lots. Or you could check Wal-Mart or Costco. You'll find some other nice decorating things there too.

    Good luck, and happy decorating!

  4. nice ideas, try decorating as a change, not only the coloures, try to put everything old and nasty out and get some new cool stuff and put them wherever u want, but before doing anything, try to make a small model first and check all the ideas on it, then do the real one, hope u make what u like

  5. Happy birthday!!   zebra stripes sound great,  maybe you could carry on the Africa look, and do away with the idea of blue or pink,  not really compatible with zebra stripes.

Even if you can't afford Ikea (neither can I) there's nothing to stop you wandering around with a notepad and pencil, sketching what you like,  getting lots of great ideas and taking them home and working out how you can create a similar look, within your budget.

Try lots of different bedroom specialists that have display rooms setup, and pinch ideas.....

You can also try getting cotton - must be cotton - bedlinen and dyeing it.....messy but great fun.  (polycotton doesn't take the dye very well, if at all)
