Redondo boys volleyball team loses to Santa Margarita on Saturday
The Redondo boys volleyball team had a match against Santa Margarita on Saturday. Both the teams were competing each other in the CIF-SS Division I boys quarterfinals. The team that was able to secure its seat into the semi finals was Santa Margarita, as
they won the quarterfinal match by bagging three back-to-back sets.
Not only was Santa Margarita able to win the match by sweeping the Sea Hawks, the Eagles won each set of the match quite comfortably. By the time that the Eagles were soaring high on their well-earned win and the Sea Hawks were heading out of the court with
heads hung low, the scoreboard read as 25-22, 25-18 and 25-14.
With their recent defeat, Redondo now has eight losses in their overall record and 28 wins.
In comparison with the performance statistics of the Eagles, the record of the Sea Hawks falls a shade paler. The number of times the Eagles have been able to register a win for themselves is 24 while they lost 4 times.
The win was made easy for Santa Margarita by the Sea Hawks. The losing team did not put in much of an effort to provide a significant challenge to Santa Margarita. Redondo was not doing a good job while attacking or in putting up a defence. No Redondo player
was able to perform at a competitive level. The only player who was able to cross the five kills mark was Riley Theunissen.
The start of the first set of the game saw the Eagles take control early on. They were able to secure themselves a lead and extend the advantage. However, the Sea Hawks did not let the Eagles go too far and were able to close in the gap. The final stages
of the set saw both the teams go in for the kill but it was Santa Margarita that was able to push past and secure themselves the first set at 25-22.
Capitalising on the momentum build by winning the first set of the game, the Eagles were able to come out strong in the second set. They were successful in getting the Sea Hawks under pressure. As a result, the Eagles won the second set at 25-18. The third
set came easy for the Eagles as well as they were able to secure it at 25-14.
The coach of the Redondo team, Taylor Duncan made the following comments regarding the match when it had reached its close, “We call passing and serving our `cornerstones,' so to be as bad as were in both those areas there was no way we could recover in
other places.”
