Reds Liam Gill looking forward to facing Crusaders skipper Richie McCaw in Super Rugby Final
Queensland Reds’ youngest player, Liam Gill, is ready to face the legendary Crusaders captain, Richie McCaw, in the final of Super Rugby 2011. The Australian Super Rugby top spots Reds are taking on the nomadic Crusaders on July 9, in the decider of the
current season’s title. Talking to the media on July 5, 19-years-old Gill also stated that he is hopeful to be included in the 22-member squad playing in the final
Liam Gill became part of Queensland Reds last year after he signed a two-year deal with the Super Rugby derby. Moreover, he was released by the Australian U-20 team this year to boost the injury struck Reds during the ongoing season. Gill has also represented
his national side in Sevens Rugby at the Common Wealth Games 2010, in New Delhi.
Liam Gill made his Super Rugby debut during the current season against the Brumbies. He started off the game on the bench and replaced Beau Robinson in the second-half of the match.
Talking to reporters, Gill said that he is very excited to face Crusaders flanker, McCaw. Gill further said that Richie McCaw is one of the best openside flanker around and he will be delighted to face him in the final. He added that, "I can't wait. I got
my first (run-on) debut opportunity against David Pocock, so hopefully I'll get another chance to see the other best in the world. I think the two starts gave me a big stepping stone in terms for my confidence.”
Giving the reason for his inclusion in the final contest, Gill said that, “It just helps me know that I can fit in and that I can be up to the level to perform, so that's the major thing that I'll be running off that confidence. They belted the Stormers,
so it will be a big task." He further stated that playing the Chiefs were not an easy task but that match will give him the confidence to do well on the field. He hopes the energy and the excitment of the match will see him through the game.
The Queensland Reds are expected to announce their squad for the Super Rugby final on July 6.
